When I first started out in beginners, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I did one term and didn’t actually fall in love with it like most. To be honest, I actually only signed up for the next term because I invited my friends to watch my beginners week 8 routine and they both signed up immediately for the next term. I felt bad for bailing straight away, so I continued poling the next term. They then took me to get my first pair of heels because they were so excited in their beginners class. All I could think of was, “I need to get my money’s worth for these shoes I just bought!” 😂 so I continued signing up for classes.
Clearly my perception has changed since 4 years ago. Pole makes up a big part of my life. But like everyone else, I went through the metamorphosis to get to where I am today:
– BEGINNERS: thinking more shaving cream I put on = the stickier I will be… WRONG! (I had to actually go to the bathroom in the middle of class to wash off all this foam I had created!)
– ‎INTERMEDIATE 1: having to change from shorts to bike pants because my shorts were too long to grip in my Jamila :O and then realising that dancing in pole shoes is actually easier than my old clubbing heels!
– ‎INTERMEDIATE 2: having then to change my T-Shirt/Single into a crop top because I needed to grip with my torso in a left leg hang.. seems like the higher up I go, the more clothes I lose!
– INTERMEDIATE 3: falling on your head in the middle of a week 8 show.. it’s really not the end of the world! TRUST ME! It happened to me!
– ‎INTRO TO PREP: realising how much you miss the routine but at the same time wanting to learn ALL the tricks (pole grooves definitely fixed this up for me :D)
– ‎PREP: when you tell yourself you’ll be in “prep for life” over and over again and “advance is death – avoid it at all costs!” (It wasn’t as bad as I thought to be honest.. some days I actually prefer advance over prep :D)
– ‎ADVANCE: when I finally discovered that dry hands was not a placebo. Yes… I bought my very first dry hands bottle when I got to advance.. and boy.. was it better than the shaving cream and hair spray I had been using all these years!
